You helped Ugandan girls stay in school

Do you know how widespread your impact is, or how much of a difference you make? Women Repair the World, a project of Women’s Philanthropy, teamed up with Global Village Connect this year to empower girls to continue their education, even while menstruating. Equal access to education is an important issue that affects many young women around the world, and particularly in our sister community in Uganda, the Abayudaya Jews.

This year’s program builds on our important relationships both with Global Village Connect and the Abayudayan Tikkun Olam Primary School. Because many girls and young women in the Abayudaya community stop going to school while menstruating due to not having the necessary hygiene products, it becomes difficult for them to maintain the same pace of learning as their peers. After months of falling behind, many of them drop out.

Pads for Girls addresses this inequity, and makes it possible for girls to continue their educations while menstruating. Not only are you helping provide essential hygiene products, you’re supporting their education. The students at Tikkun Olam Primary have been learning about reproductive education, menstruation, sexually and non-sexually transmitted diseases, important COVID-19 information, and how to make antibacterial soap (see photos below!).

Your impact reaches all the way to Uganda and provides necessary support for the girls and young women of the Abayudaya community as they pursue their educations. Through these menstrual care solutions and health education, Pads for Girls is changing the status quo and making an incredible difference in the lives of these young women.

Your support keeps girls in school, gives them necessary menstrual hygiene products, teaches them to value their bodies and the idea of consent (see video below!), and so much more. Below, meet some of the young women whose lives you’ve impacted, or donate a menstrual kit to Pads for Girls here to continue empowering them on their educational and personal journeys.
